Just another ordinary Friday night in our little town
Going out cruising in the cars just to see if anybody was hanging ‘round
I remember pulling up to a light, looking at the car just to my right
When I saw her face I knew I’d found my girl, right there, that night
So, I flagged her down into a gas station parking lot, asked her to come with me
I took her by the hand, put her in shotgun, and we hit the town, wild and free
I remember trying to think of something to say, some kind of foolish line
But it didn’t matter anyway, I could tell by the look in her eye she was going to be mine
I remember standing on her front porch, working up the nerve for that kiss goodnight
I can still see the look on her Mama’s face when she turned on that old porch light
It’s more than a memory, it’s kind of like a movie playing inside my head
When I think of that girl and that little town, and the feeling in my heart
When she first said “I love you”, in our little town
It was graduation day and we were all ready to take on the world, right then, that day
She took me by the hand, said “boy you better listen, cause there’s something important I’ve got to say
I remember I almost broke down and cried when she said, “I’m going to move away to school”
Then I thought to myself you’re going to lose this girl and if you let her go, then you’d be a fool
I remember standing on her front porch, shaking and begging that girl not to leave
I can still see the look on her Daddy’s face when I looked her in the eye and hit one knee
It’s more than a memory, it’s kind of like a movie playing inside my head
When I think of that girl and that little town, and the feeling in my heart
When she first said “I love you”, in our little town
Sometimes the times got a little hard
But we seemed to make it work as long as we were right here
In our little town
It seems like a million years ago, but I remember everything about you back then
There never was a time when I looked back with a single regret of how we started back when
I was standing there on your front porch, working up the nerve for that kiss goodnight
I can still see the look on your Mama’s face when she turned on that old porch light
It’s more than a memory, it’s kind of like a movie playing inside my head
When I think of that girl and that little town, and the feeling in my heart
When she first said “I love you”, in our little town
Yeah, in our little town
Yeah, in our little town
